Haiti, located about 750 miles southeast of Miami in the Caribbean, has the dubious distinction of being the poorest nation in the western hemisphere. With a population of almost 8 million, Haiti is about the same size as the state of Maryland and shares one-third of the island of Hispaniola with the Dominican Republic.    Haiti became the first black republic in the western hemisphere in 1804 when the slaves revolted against the plantation owners. Gaining independence from France was attributed to a voodoo service held in 1791 when a pig was sacrificed and the island was dedicated to the devil. In the following 200 years, Haiti has had several leaders and dictators, with many being ousted and exiled, or in some cases, being executed.

After former President Jean Bertrand Aristide was deposed in early 2004, Haiti struggles to hold presidential and parliamentarian elections in the fall of 2005. However through all of this, the spiritual climate in Haiti continues to change as more unbelievers as well as believers are driven to seek the Lord Jesus Christ.

In 2002, the tree where the satanic ceremony was held in 1791 dried up from the roots and died after a group of Haitian believers prayed and reclaimed the area for the Lord. A church has also been established close by. Through all of this, the strongholds of the devil are being torn down and slowly Haiti is being claimed for the Lord Jesus Christ!
