Spirit & Sword Ministries, incorporated in 1997, was originally known as Tom & Marilyn Shaw Ministries, which was founded in 1984 by Tom and Marilyn, incorporated in Ohio and recognized by the I.R.S. as a non-profit organization.

  In 1985, Tom & Marilyn made their first trip to Haiti with a team from the Gospel Hill Ministry of Warsaw, Ohio. Gospel Hill had several projects in the mountain village of Callebasse, outside the capital of Port-au-Prince.

  After returning home from that trip, circumstances and the leading of the Lord drew Tom & Marilyn back to Haiti later in 1985 for a five month stay. While taking care of Gospel Hill's projects, the Lord laid upon their hearts 2 Timothy 2:2, which became the basis for their own ministry in Haiti. "The things you have heard from many witnesses, commit these to faithful men (and women) who will be able to teach others also."

  Before going to Haiti, Tom & Marilyn had been ministering in song and through the preaching and teaching of the Word in churches and seminars. So they believed that the Lord was telling them the things they had learned from years of studying the Word of God, the same was to be committed to the spiritual leadership of Haiti, so they in turn could go forth and reach their own people. Hence, 2 Timothy 2:2.

  While teaching at a Bible school and preaching and teaching at several Haitian churches, the Lord gave them ways to reach the church leadership throughout all of Haiti. One way was by a Bible Correspondence Course. Marilyn wrote an entire 2 year course in Creole. (Please click here to learn more about this course.) And with the course, came the idea of the "Haiti Christian Leadership Journal." It is a newsletter with a circulation of over 10,000 readers throughout all of Haiti. (Click here to learn more about the "Journal.") Tom & Marilyn have also translated several books into the Creole language and have written others themselves.

  Spirit & Sword is committed to working in Haiti until Jesus returns. There is and will always be much work to be done there.
